Madrid, May 5 (EFE) .- At least 10,700 travelers and 30 trains have been affected this Sunday due to a cable robbery in various parts of the province of Toledo that caused delays and the stop of the circulation of the high-speed rail line that Enlaza Madrid and Seville caused to the last minute of the day.
The minister of Transportation, Óscar Puente, described the event as “a serious act of sabotage” and requested citizen collaboration to find those responsible for the robbery, which caused numerous delays and disorders to thousands of travelers returning from the May First Bridge.
About 2:30 pm on Monday morning, the ten trains that continued at that time affected could continue the march and their arrival in Madrid and Seville was expected between 3:00 and 4:33 in the morning, as announced by the president of Renfe, Álvaro Fernández de Heredia, in X.
Throughout the night, the president of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, demanded from the government the “highest priority” to solve the problem of trapped travelers in the trains, while the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, said: “Bags, breakdowns … A daily calamity, international embarrassment and damage to the economy.”
The Ministry of Transportation reported Sunday that the cuts and robbery of cable had occurred in the municipal terms of the Yee (kilometer points 92/850 and 93/600) and Manzaneque (kilometer points 101/400 and 102/200), “affecting the signaling facilities of the line, which is causing delays in the service.”
In the beginning Adif reported that the theft, which was detected at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, had been located between Mora, Orgaz and Urda, in the province of Toledo, and was causing 25 -minute delays in the long -distance, high speed and avant trains.
As soon as the incidence was known, teams moved to replace the cable.
To facilitate the arrival of accumulated trains, the last exits of the Atocha Station (Madrid) were annulled, which remained open at night pending the arrival of travelers arrested on the way.
The Minister of Transportation indicated that the Civil Guard investigates the facts and explained that it is four cable robberies at different points in a 10 -kilometer radius.

In order to facilitate the arrival of travelers affected by cable robbery, Cercanías Madrid remained operational during the night and there were special trains at 3:30 to Chamartín, Alcalá de Henares, Móstoles, Parla and Fuenlabrada, as explained this morning Inforanfe.
This Monday, the departure of the Madrid-Sevilla and Madrid-Toledo AVE will be delayed in both directions to allow the repair work that continued during the early morning.
