The 2024 bullfighting season has left significant figures that consolidate the vitality of the sector in Spain. This is collected by the statistical report presented by the National Association of Bullfighting Organizers (ANOET), which analyzes the activity recorded during the year. With a total of 20,950 celebrations held and more than 6.2 million viewers, bullfighting remains a social and cultural reality of enormous roots throughout the country.
Of all the celebrations counted, 19,404 corresponded to popular shows – Bous al Carrer, enclosures, capeas, loose – while 1,546 were scheduled in bullring. This relationship confirms the specific weight of traditional celebrations in the festive framework of many Spanish locations, and partly explains the high global volume of assistance.

The bullfights were the most common format within the shows in the square, with 392 held throughout the year. They were followed by the bullfighters with picadores (306), Las Sin Horses (298), the Bullfighting Festivals (214) and the celebrations of rejones (134). By category, most were developed in third (780) squares, followed by 548 in portable squares, 188 in second and 158 cosos in first places.
The regional map shows an unequal distribution, but with very marked activity. The Valencian Community leads by far thanks to its intense tradition of popular celebrations, accumulating 9,194 celebrations in total. Next are Aragon (2,853), Castilla y León (2,278) and Castilla-La Mancha (1,566). Navarra, the Community of Madrid and Andalusia complete the top positions in this regional ranking.
Regarding the fight of cattle in Plaza, 8,387 bullfighting animals were counted: 2,353 in runs, 1,653 in bullfighters with itchors and 1,537 in novilladas without horses. These figures show a broad and diversified offer, where different levels of demand and show models live together.
One of the most valued sections of the report is the “bullfighting map”, which allows the user to interact with a detailed visualization by autonomous communities and municipalities. Thanks to this tool, you can consult not only the territorial distribution of the celebrations, but also the type of show held in each place: runs, rejoneo, bullfight or popular.
The historical perspective is also present in this report. Anoet offers a series of curves and comparative tables that allow evaluating the evolution of the sector from 2010 to 2024. Although between 2010 and 2019 there was a sustained fall in the celebrations in the square, the report confirms a recovery in the years after the pandemic, with figures higher than those of 2019. In 2024, despite a slight drop of 1.34% in shows of the square, The number of popular compared to the previous year was exceeded in 50 celebrations.

As for quality standards, Anoet continues to be the only entity in the sector that has the AENOR certification. In 2024, the Association certified 1,005 celebrations in Plaza, which reinforces its role as a guarantor of economic and professional solvency for bullfighting companies, both associated and independent.
This report puts on the table an indisputable fact: Bullfighting is still very alive. What happens in the ring, in the streets, in each town, continues to summon millions. And the data reflects.
