Epic Games Store has announced that he will stop charging commissions to developers for the first million dollars of income they obtain for each of their applications per year, in addition to launching a new function to create own websites housed in Epic Games Store.
The video game developer has moved its intention to continue implementing news in its application store to offer “even better” treatment for developers.
In this sense, Epic Games has announced that, as of June of this year, it will stop applying commissions for the first million dollars entering developers a year for their applications.
Specifically, as explained in a statement on its website, for any payment of Epic Games Store that the company processes, developers will pay a total of zero percent participation, in the first million dollars they obtain from income per application per year.
Also, once they exceed one million dollars in revenue for their application, developers will pay the standard commission of twelve percent to Epic Games Store.
Thus, it is an advantage for developers who choose to publish their applications in the Epic Games Store, since, in the case of other application stores such as Steam, the company applies 30 percent commissions. The same happens in the case of the App Store, which requests 15 percent in the first million dollars and increases to 30 percent once this income figure is exceeded.
New Epic Games Store web stores
On the other hand, the company has also announced the new Epic Games Store web stores, which will also be available from June of this year, and with which developers can launch their own web stores housed in Epic Games Store.
This new option of web stores will be available in “any platform that allows it” and facilitates that players buy outside the application as a more profitable alternative, since they will not have to deal with “exorbitant” rates that impose applications of companies such as Apple and Google, as Epic has nuanced.
In addition to all this, as an additional incentive, players who buy in these web stores will accumulate a five percent of EPIC rewards in all their purchases.
It must be taken into account that this new function of web stores has been launched after the new order issued by the United States Northern District Court of California against Apple, which forces Cupertino to stop charging commissions for purchases made outside applications. In this regard, the developer has also announced that she will relaunch her Fortnite game in the American App Store.
