The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said that, as a concession to accelerate the arrival of peace in Ukraine, Russia is proposing to stop the war and not seize the entire territory of Ukraine.
This was told by journalists at a meeting with Norwegian prime minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, in the Oval Office on Friday, according to a UKRinform correspondent.
Thus, in response to a question about what concessions Russia proposed to approach a point where peace can be achieved, Trump said: “Stop war, giving up the control of the whole country is a fairly large concession.”
The president of the United States also commented on his message on social networks in which he reacted to Russia’s missile attack to Kyiv.
“I didn’t like what happened last night. I was discontent for it. While we were in the midst of peace conversations, missiles were shot. I was discontent. I referred to that,” Trump said.
When asked if he was willing to impose additional sanctions against Russia, the US president said it would be better to answer this question in a week.
“I want to see if we can reach an agreement. It makes no sense to answer that question right now, but I will not be happy,” said the current chief of the White House.
-He also said that journalists have no idea how much pressure is exerting on Russia. Otherwise, according to him, Moscow would not be negotiating with Washington.
“I think he wants to reach an agreement. We will know very soon, but two are needed to dance tango, and it is necessary that Ukraine also wants to reach an agreement,” Trump continued.
The US president also gave a vague answer to the question of whether he believed that Ukraine should give territory to achieve peace.
“It depends on the territory in which they are fighting. They have lost many territories, but we will do everything we can, working with Ukraine,” Trump said in his response.
As Ukrinform reported, on Thursday the US president declared that it is necessary for Russia and Ukraine to sit at the negotiating table.
