Guanajuato, Gto. The Guanajuato Civil Protection Directorate continues with the coordinated works to control and liquidate the forest fire that is recorded in the Cerro del Cuervo, near the community of Las Ánimas, and that so far has consumed approximately 64 hectares of vegetation.
This fire began on Monday afternoon and, although during the morning of Tuesday it was 100 percent controlled, the strong gusts of wind caused the fire to be reactivated.
Since then, it has worked intensely with the support of different brigades and emergency bodies, including: Volunteer Firefighters of Guanajuato, Simub Firefighters, the voluntary brigade of fire management “Los Chuines”, and inhabitants and volunteers of the El Cuervo, El Terrero, the Laurel, Cave of the Cedro, the tin, the souls and the chocolate.
The Director of Municipal Civil Protection, José Félix Pérez, informed that until yesterday Wednesday it has been possible to maintain control in 100 percent of the perimeter affected and a 90 percent fire settlement has been reached. He also informed that the work has already added personnel of the National Forestry Commission (Conafor) to reinforce the work in the area.
The municipal official recalled that in recent days, various grassland fires have been treated in different parts of the municipality, including: that of the vicinity of the DCEA facilities, with an approximate affectation of one hectare, in San José de la Luz, in front of the company Siemens, with 2,000 square meters affected, in the El Orito Ecological Park, with 800 square meters, in Colita del Encino, with a thousand square meters.

José Félix Pérez took the opportunity to remember the recommendations to the citizenship in order to prevent fires during the season of Estiaje such as: Do not throw cigarette butts lit in green or grassland areas, avoid making fires in forest areas or without supervision, not burn garbage or waste in patios or vacant lots, keep the surroundings of the houses in rural areas, report any column of smoke to 911 immediately.
Finally, he called on citizens to support personnel who fight these fires. Those who wish to collaborate can donate products such as sera, moisturizers (Gatorade), bottled water, tuna, chocolate, peanuts and canned food in the municipal civil protection offices located in Villa Ocampo s/n, in Villas de Guanajuato subdivision, or at the base located in the area of the bullring.
