The rapid performance of the Firefighters of the Guadalajara City Council avoided a situation of greater risk after detecting an important natural gas leak in the accountant of a house in the capital a few days ago.
The alert was given by a neighbor, which allowed a fast response from the Fire Department, which displaced two endowments to the scene. Upon arrival, the troops confirmed the magnitude of the escape, immediately proceeding to establish a security device.
As a preventive measure, firefighters set up an extinction laying, cut traffic on the affected street and, crucially, confined the neighbors in their respective homes to avoid any possible incident until the situation would be controlled.
The key to a safe intervention in cases of gas leak lies in knowing the relative density of the gas, Ionforman from the firefighters of Guadalajara. This factor determines its behavior in the air: if it is less dense than the air, it will tend to ascend and dissipate in the atmosphere, while if it is denser, it will accumulate at the ground level, with the consequent risk of filtering in closed spaces such as garages and sewers, increasing the danger of explosion or inhalation.
Finally, the emergency teams managed to cut the gas supply, normalizing the situation and allowing the return of the neighbors to their usual activities after the evaluation and assurance of the area by the competent technicians.
