‘I think I have a lot to offer about performance and go after bicycle races, says the Welsh of bicycle racing, having been linked to the future of INEOS staff
Geraint Thomas is discussing the possibility of moving to a management or personnel with INEOS grenadiers after his retirement at the end of the current season, the Welshman revealed.
Speaking in an interview with the GuardianThomas said that “he would love to stay involved in some capacity” after hanging his wheels, imagining that “he would go crazy after a week” of any training or careers.
“It has been mentioned, but it is something that I have not spoken correctly. I love cycling and team, so I would love to stay involved in some capacity,” said Thomas.

“I have been used to aiming at races and chasing something and really dedicating myself to myself, so if I go home with Cardiff, I take Max to school and do nothing the rest of the day, I will go crazy after a week.”
Thomas, 38, confirmed his retirement in February, with a last tour of France his main objective of the season before setting up the final race of his career on the tour of Great Britain in September.
He said My Bike In the Volta Ao Algarve that “nothing is concrete” with respect to any paper after the race with ineos. Speaking this week, he told the Guardian That still has a lot to offer beyond the races.
“I think I have a lot to offer on performance and pursue bicycle races,” he said. “There would also be much to learn, what is also exciting. Everything depends on the role it would end up doing, but that is the type of challenge I would be looking for.”
Before calling at the time in a 19-year-old professional career, who sees him tell the Tour of France, Paris-Nice, the Tour de Suisse and the Critérium du Dauphiné among 25 victories, Thomas will address a last race in front of the homemade crowds.
He is ready to start the Tour of Suisse next month before assuming the Tour of France for the 14th time. The Deutschland tour would be the next agenda in August before heading to the Great Britain in September, with the race prepared to visit its hometown of Cardiff.
“It will be incredible. It will be a complete circle: finishing my career on the roads in Cardiff. There will be many friends and family there. I can’t think of a better way to finish,” said Thomas, before reflecting on his career.
“The bicycle races are all I have met. It has certainly been up and down, but you only remember the good times. Even bad times are the construction of characters, overcoming them, learning from it and growing from it. It makes you stronger safely.”
However, he says goodbye to the sport at the end of the season, and if he moves to a paper of back room or not, Thomas can probably look back in a season of ineos more positive than the previous campaign.
In 2024, the team collected only 14 victories, since the tensions behind the scene led to a staff review during the winter, since 30 new members joined. Tom Pidcock also left with Q36.5 buying his contract after an effort of relations between the multidisciplinary star and his team.
Already in 2025, Ineos has taken 10 victories and scored the podium in Algarve, Paris-Nice, Tyrrhenian-Adriath and the route through the Alps. Thymen Arensman will seek to add another to the collection in the next turn of Italy.
Thomas ruled out the idea that Pidcock was an important problem in INEOS last year, however, he pointed out that exterior reports also had an effect on perception.
“I don’t think any problem that Tom had outside the reason why the whole team lacks a couple of results. The strange thing would still be great to have it. It’s still riding well, right?” said.
“The narrative around the team is a big thing. I stay in my own little bubble, most of the time, and I have still been able to succeed.
“Now that there are more positive stories about the way the team is competing, that also helps. When people write negative things all the time, it is easy to believe it.”
After this month’s turn and, hopefully, more positive stories for ineos and Thomas, he will go to France, competing in a support role for his Spanish GC Hope Carlos Rodríguez.
Thomas said that his last season has combined the romance and feeling of a farewell and the daily business of “careers, preparation and being as good as possible for July.”
However, he admitted that perhaps he has been too relaxed during the season so far, which has seen him run 30 days, including the Down Under tour, Volta Ao Algarve, Volta to Catalunya and Romandie Tour.
“It is a different mentality this year since I am not going to the general classification. It has been too relaxed, perhaps, so it is time to knot, a diet and everything,” said Thomas.
“Cyclists have always been thin. It is more the whole package. All are simply stronger. Everyone is training better.
“Losing those few kilos makes a big difference these days. They have always done so, but even more now, the entire squad is improving. Before, only a couple of people in each team went to altitude or whatever, but now they are whole teams that are in it.”
