The opposition leader María Corina Machado celebrated on Tuesday the rescue of the five Venezuelan opponents and members of her political team who were not cared for in the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, qualifying the operation as “impeccable and epic.”
Machado thanked those responsible and reaffirmed his commitment to the struggle for freedom in Venezuela. «An impeccable and epic operation for the freedom of five heroes of Venezuela. My infinite recognition and thanks to all who made it possible, ”he wrote in his account in X.
He reaffirmed his commitment to free the “900 heroes imprisoned for this tyranny” and “30 million Venezuelans,” ensuring that “with freedom, the irreversible change will come to a Venezuela of prosperity, justice and peace.”
USA confirmed the rescue
The US Secretary of state, Marco Rubio, confirmed on Tuesday the successful evacuation of the five Venezuelan opponents who were asslated at the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, who are already in American territory.
Through his X account, Rubio declared: “The United States celebrates the successful rescue of all hostages held by Maduro’s regime at the Argentine Embassy in Caracas.”
He said that “everyone is now under protection on American soil.”
The senior official denounced that Maduro’s government “has systematically weakened democratic institutions, violated fundamental human rights and turned Venezuela into a threat to regional stability.”
And he added his thanks to the allies who collaborated with the efforts of the United States government. “We express our deep thanks to the inter -institutional team and our international allies that made possible the safe rescue of these brave defenders of Venezuelan freedom.”
Who were the careful opponents who were at the Argentine Embassy in Caracas?
At the diplomatic headquarters are Magallí Meda, Omar González, Pedro Urruchurtu, Claudia Macero and Humberto Villalobos -all collaborators of the opposition leader María Corina Machado-, who entered on March 20, 2024, after the Prosecutor’s Office announced an arrest warrant against her.
Since August 2024, the property remains under the protection of Brazil, after the Government of Nicolás Maduro expelled the Argentine diplomatic corps.
However, Venezuela revoked Brazil in September, after denouncing the alleged planning of terrorist acts inside the headquarters.
After the measure, the Brazilian government indicated that “it will remain with the custody and defense of the interests” of Argentina until President Javier Milei “designates another acceptable state” for the Venezuelan Executive.
