CLEVELAND — Brayan Rocchio singled in automatic runner Ramón Laureano with one out in the 10th inning, giving the Cleveland Guardians a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.
Cleveland forced extra innings with David Fry’s solo home run in the ninth off Andrew Chafin and completed the comeback when Rocchio hit a clean hit off closer Alex Lange (0-2) to center field.
Rocchio also scored an unearned run on Joey Wentz in the eighth to bring the Guardians within 4-3. It was his first hit to leave his rival prone in his career.
Dominican Emmanuel Clase (2-1) scored the victory with a scoreless inning. Cleveland shares the second record in the American League at 24-13.
Detroit played its 15th game decided by one run, the most in the majors. They are 7-8 with that margin.
For the Tigers, Cuban Andy Ibáñez 5-1, one scored. Puerto Rican Javier Báez 3-0, one scored.
For the Guardians, Dominicans José Ramírez and Estevan Florial, both 4-0. Venezuelan Andrés Giménez 0-4, one RBI.
