Referees called for the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™

  • There are 101 referees called for the continental tournament, where the presence of women for the first time stands out.
  • The referees are from CONMEBOL and UEFA, in a strategic exchange agreement between the confederations and Concacaf as guests.

The South American Football Confederation, through its Referees Commission, announced the list of those called up for the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™, in a breakdown of main referees, assistant referees and VAR referees.

For the first time in history, the men’s CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ will have the presence of female referees, they are: Edina Alves – BRA (Referee); Neuza Back – BRA (Assistant); Mary Blanco – COL (Assistant) and Migdalia Rodríguez – VEN (Assistant), for CONMEBOL. While, Maria Penso – USA (Referee); Brooke Mayo – USA (Assistant); Kathryn Nesbitt – USA (Assistant) and Tatiana Guzmán – NIC (VAR), for Concacaf.

It is a high commitment assumed by CONMEBOL since 2016, which is committed to the development and professionalization of more women on and off the field of play, promoting football with equality in the different tournaments.

Those summoned will appear on June 12, 2024, in the city of Dallas – USA, to participate in the Seminar prior to the start of the tournament, from the 13th to the 17th of the same month.

The objective is to reinforce technical concepts in a comprehensive way, work on physical aspects, in addition to carrying out different training activities on the field, classroom and VAR cabins.

Among the topics to be trained are matches with players, a simulator in a VAR cabin; technical and physical evaluations, in addition to regenerative physiotherapy work, so that the referees arrive with the best performance.
