On June 15, Colombian soccer will have a new champion. This was decided by Dimayor, which scheduled the matches between Bucaramanga and Santa Fe, in the grand final of the BetPlay I-2024 League, on Saturdays the 8th (first leg) and 15th (second leg) of this month.

The leopard will be the home team in the first leg, in which they expect a party at the Alfonso López stadium and to be able to gain an advantage in the dispute for the title.

While the Bogota lion will close in El Campín in the second leg of the final, with the dream of crowning its tenth star.

However, fans were surprised because neither of the two games will be played on Sunday, the most traditional day for soccer. What happened?

Fernando Jaramillo, president of Dimayor, confirmed the real reasons for both matches in the League I final to be scheduled on Saturdays and not Sundays.

consulted by TIMEJaramillo assured that on Sunday the 9th, the National Police had commitments that did not allow them to provide security service at the game in Bucaramanga.

On Sunday, June 16, Dimayor decided not to schedule the second leg due to the celebration of Father’s Day, an important date for the country’s commerce.

The curious thing is that the Mother’s Day celebration did have professional championship commitments. Jaramillo assures that that day it was not possible for them, due to the calendar, to move the games, however now they could maneuver so that the dates did not coincide.
