An unfortunate piece of news that puts sports in mourning comes from Europe. This, after Andrew Thamjust 28 years old, died in a tragic car accident.

The event has particularly hit Scottish boxing, considering that last September, Tham had been crowned champion of the featherweight category.

The accident that ended Tham’s life

Regarding the event that ended the athlete’s life, it occurred in the middle of a collision with a car at around 6:50 p.m. on Thursday.

The boxer, who was riding a motorcycle, had to be taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow on Sunday, three days after the accident that left him with serious injuries.

Since then, there have been multiple tributes to the man who ended up being proclaimed Scottish featherweight champion nine months ago.

In that sense, St Andrew’s Sporting Club, one of the clubs where he perfected himself in the discipline, reacted to the event in their X account.

“On behalf of the Tham family, St Andrew’s Sporting Club is devastated to confirm the tragic passing of Andy Tham,” they said in the first instance.

“Andy was a champion in the ring and a character outside the ring. It has been an honor to have him in our stable throughout his entire professional boxing career and we will all miss him greatly,” they added.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. We ask that you respect their privacy at this difficult time,” they closed.

George Stewart, a boxer who won a fight last month against Tham, also regretted what happened, saying he was “absolutely devastated.”
