Baltimore Orioles sign free agent right-hander Julio Teherán, looking to replace injured starters Tyler Wells and John Means
Free agent right-hander Julio Teherán signed with the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.
Teheran, 33, who spent time with the Orioles in spring training, accepted a minor league contract. He will appear in Triple A, with Norfolk.
Teheran, a two-time All-Star, could help Baltimore replace injured starters Tyler Wells and John Means. Means underwent season-ending surgery on Monday, and Wells is set to do the same.
Teheran made one start this season for the New York Mets on April 8 against the Atlanta Braves and allowed four runs on six hits in 2⅔ innings in a game the Mets won 8-7.
He is 81-82 with a 3.85 ERA in 255 career games (248 starts) over 13 seasons with the Braves (2011-19), Los Angeles Angels (2020), Detroit Tigers (2021), Milwaukee Brewers (2023) and Mets.
