Junior Sornoza and the Copa América: “The injury sidelined me from fighting for a place”

Junior Sornoza missed half of the first semester due to an injury that he suffered in the match against San Lorenzo for CONMEBOL Libertadores, in which Valley Independent won 2-0. After this, the tricolor expressed his wish to have been able to play in the Copa América.

In an interview with ‘Radio La Red’ the midfielder mentioned: “I wanted to be in the Copa América, I worked every day because it was my goal. The injury sidelined me from fighting for a place and now I will be supporting my teammates from the outside and I will wear the shirt in all the games.”

The Ecuadorian commented that he is in the last phase of his recovery: “I had a relapse and I felt a little, but I am already in the final part and I am trying to recover well, I want to reach the second semester. It was a muscle tear in my calf and I scored a goal in addition to an injury. I didn’t have an exact diagnosis until the MRI, I had a 4 cm tear, that hit me a lot, I was having a good time.”

“I was watching our game live, while I was watching the other one (Barcelona) with my cell phone. I suffered a lot and we enjoyed the last minutes, I went crazy, I wanted to get on the court and we enjoyed it a lot. We achieved one of the objectives”said the ‘fox’ about how he lived the definition of the stage that IDV won.

Sornoza ended up mentioning the difference between Martín Anselmi and Javier Gandolfi: “It was not a sudden change and the base was maintained, Martín left and Javier came. I thanked him for being there at all times and the teacher has given us all the necessary tools to do things well. I enjoyed and suffered the process.

Junior Sornoza will seek to return with everything in the second semester, where he hopes to be a protagonist with Independiente del Valle and return to a call-up with La Tri, remembering that in September the Qualifiers will be reactivated towards the 2026 World Cup.
