The Yankees seem to be able to breathe a sigh of relief regarding Dominican outfielder Juan José Soto, at least for now. After Soto left Thursday night’s game against the Twins with discomfort in his left forearm, an MRI simply showed inflammation, according to a report by MLB Network correspondent Jon Heyman on Friday afternoon.

The team has not confirmed Heyman’s report, who added that Soto will consult a radiologist to make sure.

Soto was not in New York’s lineup for the Yankees’ series opener against the Dodgers at Yankee Stadium on Friday. Left fielder Alex Verdugo filled Soto’s usual No. 2 spot in the offensive order, while Aaron Judge moved from center field to patrol right, with Trent Grisham in the lineup at CF.

Soto leads the American League with a .318 average, while hitting 17 home runs and driving in 53 runs in 64 games, also leading the league. His .424 on-base percentage is the best in the Majors right now.
