The 2024 Projection Cup enters its final stage since this weekend the round of 16 of this reserve tournament will be played. Both Central and Newell’s entered the top eight in their area, which is why they acquired the ticket to play this key. And both of them had to be visitors of two teams from Cordoba.
Central will play at the Boutique against Talleres this Saturday starting at 7 p.m.under the arbitration of Iván Mastroieni. While Newell’s will face Belgrano on Sunday from 5 p.m., at the Gigante de Alberdi, where Roberta Echeverría will dispense justice. In case of ties in the 90′ there will be penalties to decide who advances to the quarterfinals.
If the Auriazules advance to the phase, they will face the winner of Vélez and Independiente in the quarterfinals as visitors. While if the red-and-black draw this series they will face the winner of the match between Estudiantes and Argentinos Juniors outside of Rosario.
Only in the semifinals can the Rosario classic take place and it would be played at the Gigante de Arroyitosince Central finished better placed in its area than Newell’s.
The other round of 16 brackets are: Lanus v. San Lorenzo, Banfield v. Godoy Cruz, River v. Boca and Defense and Justice against Racing.

The history in reserve between Central and Talleres consists of 16 games with absolute parity, with 7 wins for each and two draws.
The first confrontation was only on September 13, 1999, on the 6th date of the 1999/2000 season in Arroyito, when the reserves were playing in the preliminary round of the first, and the team led by Daniel Teglia won 2 to 1 with goals from Ricardo Canals and Javier Cámpora.
And the second time they met, on March 19, 2000 in Córdoba, the biggest win in history occurred, as Central won 6 to 1 with celebrations from Javier Cámpora (2), Líber Vespa, Charles Pérez, Federico Arias and Javier García.
The Auriazules have lost 4 in a row against Talleres and have not beaten them since August 2, 2019 when they won 2-0 at home with shouts from Ignacio Russo and Franco Sarco.
History Newell’s – Belgrano
While Newell’s and Belgrano played 18 matches in reserve with 8 red-and-black wins, 6 for the pirates and 4 draws. The first match was on 9/12/1999 in Córdoba and they tied 0-0. In the second, played on 03/19/2000 in the Park, Leprosy won 2-1 with two goals from Kurt Lutman. The coach in both games was Arsenio Ribeca.
Leprosy’s biggest victory against the celestials was on March 3, 2002 as a visitor, 4 to 1, with goals from Rubén Gigena (2), Diego Villar and Mauro Conocchiari (DT: Rubén Rodríguez).
Newell’s has not lost 4 times with Belgrano (1 win and 3 draws).
