Goalkeeper Stefan Ortega extends his contract with Manchester City

The German goalkeeper joined City in the summer of 2022 after ending his contract with Arminia Bielefeld


The German goalkeeper of Spanish origin, Stefan Ortega Morenohas extended its contract with the Manchester City for one season, as announced this Saturday by the English club, which he joined in July 2022.

Ortega Moreno, 31, played 20 games with the team led by the Spanish coach Pep Guardiola in all competitions last season and starred in a key moment in achieving the fourth consecutive League title, on the penultimate matchday against Son Heung-Min in the visit to Tottenham.

“I am delighted to stay longer in the Manchester City. This is a football club that gives players everything we need to do our best. Every day I feel motivated, the challenge is great and I have improved as a goalkeeper since I arrived two years ago,” said the player who also played in all the Cup matches until the second consecutive final.

Since arriving in Manchester in July 2022, Stefan Ortega Morenowho is the son of a Spanish father, has played 34 games with the City shirt, with which he has won two “Premier” Leagues, a Cup, a Champions League, a European Super Cup and a Club World Cup.

“My family is very established here in England… I love everything that happens here. Signing this agreement means that I can now concentrate 100 percent on next season and beyond,” he added.

The German goalkeeper joined the City in the summer of 2022 after finishing his contract with Arminia Bielefeldafter having played 220 games in two different stages at the club he joined in 2007. He made his debut in the first team four years later, on the way to promotion to the Bundesliga in 2013.

In 2014 he signed for TSV 1860 Munich, with whom he played 64 games in three years, before returning to Arminia Bielefeld in 2017, where he was vice-captain. “This is a crucial contract extension for the Manchester City. Stefan is the best second goalkeeper we have ever had. He gives us quality, stability and experience,” said City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain.
