SAN DIEGO — Kyle Higashioka homered leading off the ninth inning, and the San Diego Padres beat the Oakland Athletics 4-3 on Tuesday.

Dominican Fernando Tatis Jr. extended his hitting streak to 17 games – the longest in his career. But Jurickson Profar, who entered the game second in the majors in batting average and first in the National League in on-base percentage, was hurt while swinging early in the eighth inning.

Venezuelan David Peralta replaced him and hit a fly ball to center field. The Padres loaded the bases with two outs before Merrill Jackson popped a ball to left field.

Higashioka ended the duel with a shot through the left field against left-hander Scott Alexander (0-1). It was his fifth home run of the season.

For the first time in his career, Higashioka allowed the game-ending home run.

Venezuelan Robert Suárez (3-0) took the victory.

For the Athletics, Venezuelan Abraham Toro was 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Dominican Miguel Andújar 1-for-4 with one run scored.

For the Padres, Venezuelans Luis Arráez 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI, David Peralta 1-0. The Dominicans Tatis 4-2 with one run scored, Manny Machado 4-2. Colombian Donovan Solano 3-1.
