Thanks to a double from Víctor Dávila and a lethal performance from Gabriel Suazo, Chili returned to the National Stadium in Santiago with a solid 3-0 victory in a friendly against Paraguayhis last test before America Cup which will be held in the United States and where it will face the Argentine National Teamdefending champion.
Under the command of the Argentine Ricardo Gareca“La Roja” was dominant from the first minutes and created more opportunities, while Paraguay retreated and hardly ventured through the rival goal.
The lethal duo made up of midfielder Dávila and defender Suazo starred in the match, the first played at the National Stadium in four years, following the closure of the legendary venue for renovations.
Dávila opened the scoring in the 17th minute after receiving an assist from the defender with an impeccable header. Exactly twenty minutes later, the pair repeated their harmony, Suazo crossed and the forward scored his double.
In the second half, Chile returned with the same intensity and forward Eduardo Vargas extended the lead in the 53rd after a categorical pass from Diego Valdés to seal the victory against an anemic Paraguay.
More organized and surgical, the Chileans controlled the 90 minutes without any scares. Vargas, Alexis Sánchez, Mauricio Isla and Matías Catalán, pillars of the Chilean golden generation, delivered a solid performance that confirms them as leaders of a team that could finally have new references in the continental tournament.
This was the Chileans’ last friendly before embarking on a trip to the United States for the Copa América, in which they will debut on June 21 against Peru. Four days later, La Roja will clash with Argentina and conclude the group stage with a duel against Canada on June 29.
Paraguay, for its part, will play a last friendly before the continental championship next Sunday against Panama and will make its debut in the Copa América on June 24 against Colombia.
