Seventh place after adding to the second place in the classification a penalty of five positions that they suffered in the last WEC race, after causing an accident in the 6 Hours of Spa (Belgium).
The ‘pole’ went to the Porsche 6, which arrived at the last moment, being the last to complete the lap after the red flag that stopped the session with 7 minutes and 41 seconds left, after an exit from the track. of the number 15 BMW, which had been the fastest in Wednesday’s qualifying.
Moment in which the number 3 Cadillac, driven by Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais, was leading with 782 thousandths of an advantage over the rest, but he got out of the car, did not go out on the track again and ended up costing him pole position, although he will start second on Saturday in a 24-hour race that starts at 4:00 p.m. CEST (-2 GMT).
Historic test in which the Ferrari number 50, of the Spanish Miguel Molina, together with the Italian Antonio Fuoco and the Dane Nicklas Nielsen, could not repeat the pole they achieved in 2023, and will start from fourth place, behind the Ferrari 51.
LMP2 and LMGT3
Three other Spaniards competed for pole position in their respective categories this Thursday. In LMP2, the second category, which only races in Le Mans and not in the rest of the championship, Lorenzo Fluxá (Oreca Cool Racing) had to settle for sixth place in a Hyperpole in which the Danish Malthe Jakobsen took the wheel.
On the other hand, in LMGT3, the touring car category, the Aston Martin-Heart of Racing team in which Álex Riberas participates – although it was his teammate, the American Ian James, who took to the track in the qualifying session – will start fifth.
