HOUSTON — Riley Greene homered in each of the first two innings and set a career-high with four hits and six RBIs as the Detroit Tigers beat the Houston Astros 13-5 on Saturday.
The Tigers overcame starter Spencer Arrighetti (3-6) with six hits and seven runs in just one and a third runs. The 24-year-old pitcher received the starting opportunity after Justin Verlander was ruled out with a neck injury.
Matt Vierling, Carson Kelly and Colt Keith had solo homers to give Detroit five, the most for the team this season. Dominican Wenceel Pérez added a career-high four hits and two RBIs. Tigres had a total of 19 hits — the most this year.
Detroit starter Jack Flaherty (4-3) allowed three hits and struck out six in five innings for his third straight victory.
Chas McCormick had his first homer of the season in a three-run seventh inning for the Astros, who went 14-3 with runners in scoring position in their fourth loss in six games.
