SAN FRANCISCO — Cuban Jorge Soler hit a three-run homer in San Francisco’s nine-run fourth inning and the Giants beat the Los Angeles Angels 13-6 to avoid a three-game series sweep.

The faltering Giants’ offense came to life in a big way in the fourth inning to turn an 0-2 deficit into a big lead in a bullpen game for both teams. This gave the victory to Spencer Bivens, 29, in his long-awaited debut in the Major Leagues.

Venezuelan José Suárez (1-2) faced five batters in the fourth roll and did not get an out, being replaced after consecutive doubles by Venezuelan Thairo Estrada and Brett Wisely.

Matt Chapman added an infield single before Soler blew it away off Hunter Strickland with his eighth home run of the season to make it 8-2. Austin Slater added an RBI single to cap San Francisco’s most productive inning since he scored 10 runs in the fourth against Pittsburgh on Sept. 7, 2008.

For the Angels, Venezuelan Luis Rengifo went 1-2 with one run scored.

For the Giants, Cuban Jorge Soler went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Venezuelans Thairo Estrada 2-for-5 with one run scored and two RBIs and Wilmer Flores 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Puerto Rican Heliot Ramos 6-2.
