Redickan ESPN NBA analyst who played 15 years in the league, met with the vice president and general manager of the LakersRob Pelinka, and with owner Jeanie Buss over the weekend and conversations about the vacancy continued throughout the week, sources said.
Pelinka offered the job to Redick Thursday morning, sources said.
Pelinka became convinced of the ability of Redick to connect with the players and their basketball IQ and believes surrounding him with an elite coaching staff will help shorten his learning curve in his first coaching job, sources said.
Redick He became the head of the search a week ago after the Lakers were rejected by Connecticut coach Dan Hurley.
The Lakers Hurley was offered a six-year, $70 million contract that he turned down early last week, sources said.
Like Pelinka did with Hurley, he still wants a coach and staff that prioritizes the development of young players like Max Christie, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura and can design a creative approach to present to Anthony Davis on both ends of the court, sources said.
Redick He has a solid relationship with the Lakers star, Lebron Jameswith whom he co-hosts a basketball podcast.
