Intelligence Director reveals why he removed his counterintelligence chief

Carlos Ramón González, head of the National Intelligence Directorate (DNI), confirmed the reasons why in March he removed Police Colonel Edwin Chavarro from the counterintelligence directorate of the entity attached to the Presidency.

That departure had already been revealed in March by El Tiempo. At that time, when González replaced Manuel Casanova in the direction of the DNI, there was a scramble at the top of the entity. In addition to Chavarro, the private secretary of the entity, Consuelo Ucrós, came out; and the director of operations, Urías Trujillo.

According to El Tiempo, initially the departure was said to have occurred because the Comptroller’s Office established that the 30 million pesos that were paid to an extortionist of Chancellor Leyva for the passport case did not come from the Foreign Ministry but from reserved expenses of the DNI. . But that newspaper established that there was other information that reached Casa de Nariño and that it was ordered to verify “the alleged interceptions that were being carried out by an entity without the DNI realizing it.”

The version of the exit, according to González. The director of the DNI said today that there were “specific accusations against this man” that had been going on since November of last year. The complaints came from the Supreme Court of Justice, after a meeting in November.

“With my arrival, there was a specific indication of this man by the magistrates of the high courts. We investigated this issue, the president when he asked me to direct the DNI, he asked me to please remove any suspicion in this regard and one of the changes that were made were those,” González told W.

González made an unprecedented round of media, after his meeting yesterday with the Supreme Court of Justice, due to the complaints of alleged tricks made by Judge Jorge Ibáñez, of the Constitutional Court.

Regarding the atmosphere within the high courts due to the complaints and the political impact of this situation with the Casa de Nariño, you can read this note today and the episode of Huevos Revueltos con Política:
