Copa América: Bielsa’s Uruguay debuted with a goal against Panama

The Uruguayan soccer team beat Panama 3-1 on Sunday in its presentation in the Copa América, showing that he is one of the favorites to win the title. Maximiliano Araujo, Darwin Núñez and Matías Viña scored the winning goals for the team led by Argentine Marcelo Bielsa. Michael Murillo scored the goal for the Panamanians.

In the match played at the Hard Rock stadium in Miami, Florida, Araujo put Uruguay ahead in the 16th minute with a placed shot, putting the ball into the left corner.

Uruguay came close to scoring the second goal in the 19th minute with a header that goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera deflected with a successful throw.

The team led by Marcelo Bielsa continued to implement a dominance that was not able to reflect it on the scoreboard despite the options it generated. For the second half, Panama looked more incisive, and matched the actions, but could not convert the opportunities it created.

The clearest option he had was in the 58th minute with a shot by José Rodríguez that was deflected by goalkeeper Sergio Rochet before the ball hit the right post.

When Panama was playing better, Núñez scored Uruguay’s second goal in the 85th minute with a volley shot inside the area after a defensive rebound. And Viña closed the account in the 91st minute with a header after a cross sent by Diego de la Cruz from the right sector.

In the last play of the match, Panama scored through Murillo, who put the ball in the right corner with a shot inside the area in the 94th minute.

In the second day of Group C, which will be played on Thursday, Uruguay will face Bolivia, and Panama will play against the United States, which earlier beat Bolivia 2-0.
