PHOENIX — Puerto Rican José Miranda had a three-run double early in the game, Simeon Woods Richardson pitched effectively into the sixth inning and the Minnesota Twins defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-3 on Wednesday.

Miranda hit the first of two doubles in the second act against Ryne Nelson (5-6), and Minnesota was on its way to victory.

Another Puerto Rican, Willi Castro, hit a two-run homer. Trevor Lamach had a pair of doubles, and one of the best attacks in the majors totaled 14 hits, including eight extra-base hits, to recover from a 5-4 loss in the first game of the series.

That was more than enough for Woods Richardson (3-1), who allowed three runs and four hits over 5 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking a pair.

Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. drove in two runs for Arizona, which totaled four hits.

For the Twins, the Puerto Ricans Castro 4-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Carlos Correa 4-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, Miranda 4-3 with one run scored and three RBIs, Christian Vázquez 5-1. Dominican Carlos Santana was 3-for-5 with one run scored.
