After irregular races, Checo Pérez arrives at the Austrian GP with the mission of getting points that will put him back in the fight for the drivers’ championship.

Sergio “Checo” Pérez and F1 make a stop at the Austrian GP 2024 where it will be held at the Red Bull Ring, home of the famous energy drink team where the Mexican has only been able to add one podium in 10 editions.

For this weekend, the Austrian GP plans to start on Friday with a practice session and qualifying for the sprint race. Saturday will continue with the Sprint Race and qualifying for Sunday’s race.

In the sprint format, the rider Red Bull has achieved a fifth and second place in 2022 and 2023 respectively. In the last Sprint Race, he highlighted that Czech Perez sought to lead the race at the start, however, Max Verstappen He took him off the track in an aggressive maneuver and the Mexican had to settle for finishing behind his teammate.

On the other hand, Checo Pérez has not been solid on a single lap at the Red Bull Ring. The Guadalajara native has only been able to qualify for Q3 four times in the last 10 Grand Prix held at the Austrian GP. In 2021, he achieved his best qualifying after setting the third best time. Finally, in the race, he has had one podium finish and one retirement.

In the last edition, Checo Pérez achieved his best result and also one of the most remarkable comebacks of his F1 career. Despite a poor qualifying to start fifteenth, the Mexican managed to get on the podium after recovering 12 positions and finishing third.

Checo Pérez is currently fifth in the drivers’ championship with 111 points. The driver from Guadalajara will be looking to achieve his 40th podium in the top category of motorsport this weekend and thus break a drought of five races without finishing in the Top 3.
