Mize, Henry-Malloy help Tigres win the honor vs. National

DETROIT — Justyn-Henry Malloy homered and drove in three runs and the Detroit Tigers snapped the Washington Nationals’ five-game winning streak by beating them 7-2 on Thursday.

After striking out in the third inning, Malloy was left with a .143 average in the first 10 days of his major league career.

But he hit his second home run in the sixth and followed with a two-run double in the five-run seventh.

The Tigers have lost five of six. Washington was trying to have its longest winning streak since they won eight between September 23 and 29, 2019, the year they won the World Series.

Detroit starter Casey Mize allowed one run and four hits in six innings, while Patrick Corbin allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings for Washington.

Shelby Miller (4-4) earned the victory by allowing one run in a 1 1/3 inning relief effort.

For the Nationals, Mexican Joey Meneses went 3-2, two runs scored. Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario 3-0.

For the Tigers, Cuban Andy Ibáñez went 3-2, one scored and one RBI.
