LGBT+ community of Bariloche celebrated Pride Day at the Civic Center

Every June 28, International LGBT+ Pride Day, better known as Pride Day, is celebrated around the world. The acronym LGBT means the inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual groups. The celebration consists of a series of events that different groups carry out to fight for the equality and dignity of the people who make up these groups. Bariloche was no exception and this Friday the city center was the epicenter of the day.

With musical shows, the LGBT + community celebrated Pride Day on a sunny day although with low temperatures. Dance and color were present in the main square, with flags and slogans aimed at social tolerance.

With the collective’s flag on the facade of the Cívico, those present had a moment of meeting, to hug each other and highlight the axes of the struggle such as freedom, free choice and respect in the community.

This event arose in commemoration of the Stonewall riots of 1969.This event consisted of a police raid on the Stonewall Inn pub in New York City, in Greenwich Village. This bar was run by the mob and known for allowing and hosting the most marginalized people in the community: transsexuals, drag queens, effeminate youth, male prostitutes and homeless youth.

The police of the five-block city were overwhelmed by a crowd attracted to the bar and had to retreat to save themselves. This event caused an awakening in the rebellion of the community that continued to demonstrate in support of what happened and established June 28 as the day of pride, in response to fear.
