With Samsung Galaxy A55, the South Korean company has shown that you can have a good, beautiful and cheap mobile phone without having to go up another step in its product range – that is, without having to purchase a Galaxy S series terminal -, in addition to trusting that it is possible to have a very large battery, even though you have to spend more time than desired to fill it.

Starting at 479 euros, this phone arrived at the beginning of March along with its little brother, the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G, in four colors: Awesome Sky (blue), Awesome Eclipse (black), Awesome Lemon (yellow) and Awesome Lavender (lilac). It was precisely the latter that we had the opportunity to test in the final stretch of the SamsungGo challenge, with which we prepared to run a 10K race using both our mobile phone and the brand’s latest watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic.

With a size of 16 centimeters high and 7.7 centimeters wide, it seems like a somewhat large device for small hands; and heavy, since those 213 grams do not go unnoticed when carried in your pocket and even more so when used for physical activities with a lot of movement such as, in this case, running. In any case, those who want to use this device to work with it, read documents or view content, will discover that it is the perfect size for what they need.

The terminal, made with Corning materials – the screen is protected with Gorilla Glass Victus+ -, introduces square edges and aluminum frames, which reinforces its premium quality. However, it also makes it slip much more than any other device and there have been many times that it has fallen when it has not been placed on a completely flat surface. This, on the other hand, has also demonstrated its resistance, because despite these oversights it has not suffered any damage.

One of the most appreciated details of this device at the hardware level is located on the right side and is called Key Island, a protuberance that displays both the on and off button and the volume button. This allows us to locate them better if, for example, we pick it up in the dark and want to turn it on without touching all the sides of the mobile.

As for its screen, 6.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, it introduces an adequate refresh rate (120Hz) for normal use and reaches 1,000 nits of brightness, more than enough to make the experience pleasant. However, the frames of the panel, which integrates the fingerprint sensor, are too thick – the lower one is even slightly wider than the upper one – which limits the size of the content that can be displayed on it.

The camera is an interesting section in this Samsung Galaxy A55, because it is equipped with a triple rear camera with a 50 megapixel (MP) main sensor and introduces optical stabilizer (OIS). This lens is complemented by a 12 MP wide angle and a 5 MP macro lens. On the front we have a 32 MP lens, which achieves a very faithful Portrait Mode with natural contrast. This happens with all photographs in general, with a sharp and bright result, especially when very colorful elements are photographed. For example, flowers or landscapes.

SURPRISING AUTONOMY, ALTHOUGH WITH A SOMETHING SLOW CHARGING SPEED

The 5,000 mAh battery is another of the sections that we liked the most during this test, because it can extend the autonomy of the device for hours and even days. In fact, the device can stay on for up to two days as long as it is used moderately (to respond to messages, check social networks, etc.), although it supports 25W fast charging, so it takes a little longer than expected to charge. However, it is not particularly annoying if you are not in a hurry, since in just over 20 minutes it can be charged up to 50 percent.

Likewise, Samsung Galaxy A55 comes powered by the Exynos 1480 processor, manufactured in a 4 nanometer (nm) process, which has eight CPU cores, provides fluidity and does not heat up excessively in certain situations. We have only seen it get hotter than usual during device configuration or when connected to a computer to transfer files, but with moderate use it does not get hotter than desired.

As for its memory configuration, the device comes with 8 GB of RAM and two versions of internal storage (128GB and 256 GB), which is enough to store our videos and photos, among other files. If not, the company offers the possibility of expanding its SD memory up to 1 TB.

Samsung Galaxy A55 is, in short, an interesting terminal for those who do not want to spend too much on a device with good photography, more suitable for those who are attracted to large devices – especially if you have to consider buying a case to prevent slipping unexpected – and essential for those who forget to charge it very frequently.
