Windows 11 still does not convince the majority of users and the operating system barely registered a market share of 25.65% in April 2024: Windows 10 is to blame.

Microsoft has set out to bring the latest version of Windows 11 to all devices, but many users are somewhat dissatisfied with the company’s latest decisions. Millions of people have resisted upgrading to Windows 11 and continue using Windows 10.

This version of the operating system was born almost a decade ago and is the oldest for which it offers support and security patches. Despite his inevitable aging, Windows 10 continues to gain users month after month.

Windows 11 was released on October 5, 2021 and Microsoft imagined that they were looking forward to it, but nothing could be further from the truth. In April 2024, Windows 10 still had 70% of the market sharethe best figures since September 2023, has reported PCMag UK.

Windows 11 barely has 25.65%, compared to 23% in September 2023. The trend is now downwards with a progressive loss of users. The best figures for the operating system were in February of this year with a market share of 28.16%.

A small number of people use older Microsoft systems such as Windows 7, which went from 3.33% in September 2023 to 3% in April 2024.

Windows 8.1 fell from 0.61% to 0.53% in that period and only 0.33% of users continue to use the mythical Windows Xp.

What will happen when support for Windows 10 ends?

Microsoft has been clear and has assured that it will stop offering support for Windows 10 in October 2025. The technology giant is preparing the launch of its big update for Windows 11 with version 24H2 with improvements in AI through Copilot.

Not even this attracts new users and Microsoft has had to make a drastic decision: the company will start charging a subscription of $61 per year (about 57 euros at the exchange rate) starting in 2025 for those who want to continue using Windows 10.

Compatibility problems are beginning to worry many users. Microsoft will stop shipping support for Windows 10 when the Windows 11 24H2 version is releasedbut many computers do not meet the current version’s hardware requirements to run advanced AI options.
