MADRID, May 8. (Portaltic/EP) –

Bluesky has announced that in the coming months it hopes to introduce new tools to the platform, such as sending direct messages (DM) and support for video with clips of up to 90 seconds, as well as improvements related to the personalization of ‘feeds’.

The ‘microblogging’ platform was unveiled in 2019 by the then CEO of Twitter (now X), Jack Dorsey, who decided to finance an independent team to develop an “open and decentralized” standard for social networks.

In recent months it has carried out various changes, such as the withdrawal of the invitation system with which it worked since its inception, thanks to which it went from 1.6 million active users per month to more than 4 million active users in just few days.

The firm has now commented on these figures, ensuring that from the 40,000 registered users in 2023 it has now 5.6 million users; something that would be due to the creation of personalized algorithms, to introduce moderation filters and to open up to the diverse world.

To continue evolving as a service, Bluesky has commented on what changes it will carry out in the coming months, although it has announced in a statement that these do not adhere to an “exact schedule”“. This redesign will be focused on the introduction of support for video and DM, among others.

First of all, Bluesky is working on a DM service that will be integrated into the app and that will be outside of the decentralized protocol. This first version of the tool will allow users to determine who sends them messages (all, none or only followed users).

On the other hand, the platform has indicated that it is finalizing the details of the integration of video into the platform, with a first version of this tool that will allow sharing video clips of up to 90 seconds.

For Bluesky, personalized feeds “are one of Bluesky’s best features,” which is why it has chosen to “invest a little more energy” to improve them, according to this statement.

Among the ideas that They are already “in process” to achieve it There is the introduction of new feedback mechanisms to ‘show more’ or ‘show less’ posts, to avoid frequent duplication. Likewise, the platform is working on improving the discovery of ‘feeds’ and on a way to visualize those that are trending.

Anti-harassment tools are also among the company’s objectives, which recalled that during the past year it implemented functions such as response controls for message threads and community-driven moderation through tagging.

In the coming months it plans to carry out a review of the moderation tools to focus on anti-harassment mechanisms, of which it has not yet given more details.

Finally, the social network has said that it is incorporating the Oauth open standard into Bluesky and the AT protocol. Once this is implemented, the platform hopes to expand its multi-factor model (2FA) to enable the entry of new factors.

It is worth remembering that these developments were made known shortly after the departure of Dorsey, who assured that he was no longer part of the Board on May 4, without giving further explanations about the end of his relationship with https://twitter.com/jack/status/1786739952627208579

From the social network they commented that they thanked him “for his help in financing and starting the Bluesky project.” With this, they indicated that they were looking for a substitute who shares their commitment “to building a social network that gives people control of their experience.
