I compare Apple Maps and Google Maps on CarPlay: which is better

One of the “fears” we had with CarPlay is that we would not be able to enjoy Apple’s closed ecosystem because Maps It’s worse than Google Maps. However, when we have compared both applications, there are not that many differences, so, in terms of driving assistantwe are left with the Apple Maps option.

Design and user experience

As for the design, it is a section where there are no doubts: the design of Apple Maps is infinitely superior to Google Maps. This may seem like a minor issue, but in this type of applications it is of vital importance, because we are dealing with an application in which a large part of its success is based on the understanding of what we are viewing. Apple, in this sense, is a step or several ahead of Googlesince it allows the entire interface to be perfectly analyzed.

For example, when we are in Google Maps and we want to invoke Siri, we have to click on the microphone, but to access it we have to click on the app, which means a greater number of touches and, therefore, greater distraction from the road .

Another important section is the information we have in the interface, since Apple Maps offers information about characteristic elements of the landscape, while Google does not. This means that, if you have doubts about whether the path is correct or not, you can look at what is around you, and this gives users much more security.

Google Maps is smarter than Maps

If we have said previously that the explanation and Interface is much more efficient for the user in Maps than in Google, the situation changes completely when we analyze the “app intelligence”.

Both applications respond perfectly to our movements and inform quite accurately about the paths and detours we have to take. However, the situation changes when we make a mistake or have to go to a pedestrian area or where vehicles cannot pass.

Maps app carplay navigator

Regarding the ability to search for a destination from different views, Google is much smarter than Apple Maps, since the app tries to take you at all times along the only route you have selected, with no margin for error, and if you make a mistake or there is a construction zone with the street closed, tells you to make “a U-turn” without giving you an alternative solution, because it always seeks to take you to the same place. On the other hand, Google Maps is not like that, since, if you make a mistake, it can look for much more efficient and faster alternatives, without having to be the one to make the first decision, since the Alphabet app does it for you.

In conclusion, we can say for the first time that Maps is our application of favorite navigationfor its design, although it must be recognized that it still has aspects to improve.
