How to remove annoying news widgets in Windows 11

Windows 11, by default, shows you a bunch of “news” articles when you do click on the icon widget, located to the left of the taskbar that normally shows you the weather. This block was, until recently, impossible to deactivate. I’m not exaggerating when I say that the selected news stories seemed designed to disrupt any activity resembling digital calm: it’s consistently one of the worst hooks found on the internet, as if the 2000s-era MSN homepage had had a baby with the 4chan image board.

A few years ago I wrote about how to hide this crap, but my process didn’t work for everyone. Since then, a close friend almost returned her new Microsoft Surface because of this nonsense, which constantly appears on that device even if you deactivate the taskbar icon. (She stumbled upon my article, but it was of no use to her, and in the end she used a hack registration to disable the feature completely).

Goodbye to the Windows subsystem for Android: Microsoft will eliminate it in 2025

The limited selection of Android applications offered by the Amazon Appstore made the Windows Subsystem for Android was never very useful.

None of those solutions are necessary anymore. Now you can use the area widgets Windows 11 without seeing junk news headlines. Here’s how.

How to hide the news in Windows 11

Open the panel widgets from your device (try not to read the horrible headlines, they will disappear soon). Click the gear icon in the upper right corner.
