Sightful, a company founded by former Magic Leap employees, has just presented a rather curious product: a laptop with augmented reality glasses designed for ‘spatial computing’. We are talking about Spacetop G1a team that dispenses with any traditional display panel and bets everything on a virtual experience.
One of the most notable aspects of this proposal is the possibility of working in huge workspaces from anywhere. Its creators say that we will be able to enjoy a virtual screen of up to 100 inches instead of limiting ourselves to the inches that traditional laptops can offer us, for example, 13 inches.

A laptop without a screen that is committed to spatial computing
Sightful is not the first company to talk about spatial computing. This term has been circulating during yearsalthough it has taken on greater prominence since the launch of the Apple Vision Pro. Although its scope is not clearly defined, we could define it as an environment that is not limited to screens.
The Spacetop G1 points precisely in that direction. The idea is that we work with multiple windows around us. The desktop sits in front of us, superimposed on the real physical world. Sightful imagines as one of the probable use scenarios a flight on an airplane, where the space to work with a computer is limited.
In addition, they point out that this device, by not having a screen, prevents anyone else in the room from seeing what we are doing. As we can see in the images, glasses are stored where the screen should be on a traditional laptop. On the back we find a keyboard and a trackpad.
If we focus on the features and specifications, the Spacetop G1 differs in many other ways from the common laptops. First of all, we are looking at a team that has a “space operating system” called SpaceOS. There aren’t too many details about the system, but Sightful says it’s designed for the web.
The company also claims that laptop users will be able to use popular services and applications such as Gmail, Google Calendar, ChatGPT, Slack, WhatsApp, Word, among others, although there is no talk of a store. These could be applications that work directly from the browser that appears to be based on Chromium.
In place of the screen are augmented reality glasses that equip two OLED panels. These offer a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels per eye and a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz. The diagonal field of view is 50° and 44 PPD (pixels per degree). It also allows for custom prescription lenses.
Internally we have a Snapdragon QCS8550 SoC with Kryo CPU and Adreno 740 GPU. The chip, according to Qualcomm, can offer up to 48 TOPS (INT8) for artificial intelligence (AI) tasks, an interesting point for these times. The RAM is 16 GB LPDDR5 and the storage is 128 GB, although 102 GB is available.
We also have a 60 Wh battery, two USB-C ports (10 Gb/s), WiFi 7 connectivity, Bluetooth 5.3, 5G (Nano-SIM card slot or eSIM). The Spacetop G1 is also prepared for video conferencing, so it integrates two speakers (6 W stereo), a microphone and a 5 MP webcam (2592 x 1944 pixels).
Spacetop G1 Price and Availability
The new Spacetop G1 is only available in the United States, at least at this time. It is priced at $1,900, but at the time of writing this article you can get it for $1,700. On the Sightful page It has been opened for reservation for $100, with deliveries starting in October 2024.
