Google has updated the writing assistant NotebookLM with the Gemini 1.5 Pro language model, to introduce new features and multimodal interaction, and has opened it for use in more than 200 countries and regions, including Spain.

NotebookLM is an experimental notes app that Google introduced at the 2023 Google IO annual developer event as Project Tailwind, which is powered by a language model that allows it to learn from user documents.

It is located within Google Labs, so far only in the United States and as of this Thursday also in more than 200 countries and territories around the world, including Spain.

This territorial extension is accompanied by new capabilities driven by Gemini 1.5 Pro, which enables multimodal interaction with the assistant through text, images, graphs and diagrams from documents, as reported by Google.

It also supports new font formats, such as urls, presentations and Google Docs or PDF files. Online citations also refer to the specific fragments they refer to in the user’s sources, and the guide function can transform the sources into frequently asked questions, briefings, and study guides.

This writing assistant targets the education and research sector, helping with creating summaries and adapting transcripts to produce a draft.
