Sniper Elite 4, developed by Rebellion Developments, is a action and stealth video game in third person released in 2017. This title is characterized by its setting in World War II and its focus on sniper precision and tactics. Set in Italy during the year 1943, the player takes on the role of Karl Fairburne, an agent of the United States Office of Strategic Services, tasked with sabotaging Axis forces and dismantling their strategic operations.

This popular video game is on its way to coming to iPhone, iPad and Mac later this year, marking a significant milestone in Apple’s push toward cross-platform gaming support. This move is made possible by the introduction of Apple Silicon chips in Macs, which has made it easier for more developers to bring their titles not only to iPhones, but also iPads and Macs.

Gaming to another level on iPhone

Rebellion, the developer of Sniper Elite 4, has announced that this game will debut in the Christmas season on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Although the game was initially released in 2017 and already has a sequel, Sniper Elite 5, the fourth installment has maintained a loyal fan base, with more than 30 million players Worldwide.

Soon, those players will be able to enjoy Sniper Elite 4 on their Apple devices. In its announcement, Rebellion specified that the game will require the following Apple devices:

  • iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max
  • iPads with M1 or later chips
  • Macs with M1 or later chips

This limited list of compatible devices will surely expand for the rest of 2024 until the game’s release. Not only the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, but also the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are likely to get support for this game.

Rebellion has confirmed that the game will support cross save function, which will allow players to switch devices without interruptions. In addition, Sniper Elite 4 will be compatible with external controllers, an almost essential feature for titles of this magnitude on Apple devices.

It will reach more devices

Every time a major title is announced for Apple platforms, especially the Mac, the narrative around gaming on Mac changes a bit. We’ll see if this move prompts other developers to bring their AAA titles to Apple devices. Probably not, but it’s always encouraging to see another example of a launch of a renowned video gameand especially one that supports the entire range of major Apple devices.

Apple’s push toward cross-platform gaming support is showing palpable results. The arrival of Sniper Elite 4 is a testament to this, highlighting the ability of the M1 and later chips to handle graphically and performance-intensive titles. With the inclusion of cross-save and controller support, Apple is positioning itself firmly in the gaming market, offering users a smoother and more versatile gaming experience.

As more developers consider Apple’s vast user base and the technical capabilities of its latest devices, we could see a growing trend of high-quality games making their way to these platforms. The arrival of this war title is a positive step in this direction, and it will be interesting to watch how this trend evolves in the near future.
