“The future for us in hardware is quite impressive”

It was previously rumored that we might see a portable Xbox during Sunday night’s Xbox Games Showcase, but that ultimately wasn’t the case.

However, many still believe it’s on the way, and the Xbox team has certainly fueled the rumors over the past year. And in a new interview with IGN, Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer continues to drop clear hints about a portable console. When asked if there is one on the horizon, he says that he does not want to comment, but leaves clear clues for the future:

“I don’t want to say anything, but the future for us in hardware is pretty impressive. Today was about gaming, but we’ll have time to go out and talk more about the platform.”

And Spencer doesn’t stop there, he also goes to the trouble of explaining that a possible portable Xbox would be able to work locally without the Internet, and therefore wouldn’t just be a streaming device:

“I think the ability to play a game locally is very important.”

We suppose this definitely won’t dampen the rumors and hopes of a portable Xbox, but that wasn’t the intention either, or what do you think?
