Microsoft will launch a disc-less version of the Xbox Series

There will also be a special edition of the console with 2 TB of storage capacity and an Xbox Series S in white with 1 TB of capacity.

The bet of Microsoft for this generation of consoles it is double. Since 2020, the company has two machines on the market, the Xbox Series Sless powerful and without a disk drive, and the Xbox Series Xthe most advanced version of its platform and which maintains a Blu-Ray drive and support for games in physical format.

They both had their own color, too. At first the Xbox Series S was white and the Series X was black. Starting this year, things get complicated. The company had already launched a black version of the Xbox Series S with a greater storage capacity (1 TB instead of the 512 of the white version). Now it will also put on sale an updated version of the Xbox Series S in white but with the same capacity.

In addition, the company will launch an Xbox Series X also in white but in exclusive digital format, without a disk drive. The new console will obviously have a lower price than the Xbox Series X with disc. In Europe it will be sold at 499 euros instead of the 549 euros What the Xbox Series X costs and will be available at the end of the year.

To complement these two new consoles, Microsoft will also put on sale a new version of the Xbox Series 2 TB of storage and that will have a price of 649 euros.

The announcement, made this weekend during an event anticipating the news of the next two months, gives more arguments in favor of a strictly digital future for electronic entertainment, especially for a Microsoft that has invested considerably in its subscription service for games Game Pass.

Its main rival, sonyhas also put on the market a version of its latest console, the PS5which lacks a disk drive and, in exchange, has a somewhat lower price.

The market is still divided regarding these distribution alternatives. According to the consulting firm GAmes Industry 51% of the games sold for PS5, for example, have been purchased in physical format.

Digital games, the remaining 49%, tend to appear more often in sales and discounts and there is an important independent games market that never sees the light of day in physical format (as it is more expensive to distribute).

For players, in return, the disc offers the possibility of reselling the games once played or lending them to a friend or family member, popular options in this generation of consoles in which the average price of games has increased considerably.
