Apple has updated the design of the charging case for AirPods wireless headphones, which integrates a touch screen from which users can carry out actions such as seeing the weather or managing music playback, in addition to asking Siri.

The technology company led by Tim Cook already presented a patent in September 2022 in which it showed a charging case for AirPods with an interactive touch screen, with which users could control basic services such as the music player and notifications.

Now, Apple has updated the design of this case for AirPods headphones, and has shared more information about the actions designed for the device, which users could use to, for example, interact directly with the Siri assistant.

Specifically, as shown by the American technology company in the text of the new patent, published on June 4 (US 12,001,753 B2) in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, it is a new case that integrates a screen with a square shape located on the front.

This design has been motivated by the need to have “a device with a headphone case that can control operations that are traditionally associated with headphones”, referring to issues such as play, pause or change audio track controls. It also seeks to optionally complement “conventional methods for controlling wireless headphones.”

To do this, the screen would have its own interface and would allow users to carry out different actions through touch gestures, such as tapping and sliding the screen, using an Apple Pencil-style pencil, and even with gestures such as “squeeze.” ” the case to, for example, switch between different audio modes.

Among the different actions shown in the patent, in addition to controlling music playback, users could raise and lower the volume by making circles on the touch screen, select songs as favorites, watch audiovisual content, check the weather and read messages and notifications. It would also allow you to follow route directions in a map application.

Another possibility that the device would facilitate would be to activate and interact with the Siri assistant, to request that it carry out different actions directly from the charging case. In addition, as detailed by Apple, the case would connect with the smartphone applications to have access to the playback of, for example, audiobooks and the radio, as well as music and video platforms.
