Apple introduced its new personal intelligence system called Apple Intelligence that uses advanced generative models to improve the user experience on devices such as the iPhone, iPad and Mac.
This announcement was made in Cupertino, California on June 10, 2024, during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), and is focused on establishing a new standard for privacy and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI).
Apple Intelligence is built into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoiaand takes advantage of this feature to process language, images and perform actions in different applications.
According to Apple, Apple Intelligence will be exclusive to iPhone phones that integrate the A17 Pro chip from now on, so it can only be used by the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Ma, along with future iPhone 16 and phones that continue to come out.
Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, stated during the official presentation that: “We are excited to introduce a new chapter in Apple innovation. “Apple Intelligence will transform what users can do with our products and what these products can do for our users.”
The new system includes tools to improve writing, such as Rewrite, which allows users to choose between different versions of text to adjust the appropriate tone; Proofread, which checks grammar and sentence structure; and Summarize, which allows you to summarize texts in different formats.
In the same way, new capabilities also include Image Playgroundwhich makes it easy to create animated images, illustrations, and sketches directly in apps like Messages, Keynote, and Notes.
In addition, the option to create original Genmoji is introduced, personalized emojis according to descriptions or based on photos of family and friends, or contacts.
Likewise, in the Photos app, Apple Intelligence improves image and video search using natural language and can remove distracting objects from the background. Also, it allows you to create personalized stories by describing what you want to see in the memories and selecting the best music from Apple Music.
Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, has been remodeled to be more natural and contextual thanks to Apple Intelligence. You can now follow more complex instructions, maintain the context of previous questions, and perform actions more efficiently across applications.
Additionally, with Private Cloud Compute, Apple ensures greater privacy in AI, allowing computing power to scale between local processing on the device and larger server-based models.
This new system stands out for its focus on privacy, mostly processing data on the user’s device and using this tool for more complex requests without compromising security.
Apple will also integrate ChatGPT into its iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia systemsallowing users to access its capabilities directly from Apple apps, with built-in privacy protections.
Users will be able to access ChatGPT without creating an account, although subscribers can connect their accounts for advanced features, in all cases Apple will ask them for security permissions to proceed to more features.
For its part, Apple Intelligence will be available in beta this fall on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad, and Mac devices with M1 and laterinitially in United States English.
By integrating advanced artificial intelligence capabilities directly into its devices, Apple wants to continue being a benchmark in the coming years, providing its users with useful and safe tools to manage their daily tasks.
Also, this new set of AI tools incorporated by Apple puts it in a competitive position against its technology industry rivals such as Google and Meta, which have made substantial advances in generative artificial intelligence since the developments of OpenAI in 2022.
