Microsoft will retire Windows Mail, Calendar and the light web version of Outlook in the third quarter of 2024

For some time now, Microsoft confirmed that the Mail and Calendars application would be renewed in 2024, but the light web version of Outlook will also be renewed. And today the company has confirmed a little more information.

Microsoft to retire Windows Mail, Calendar in September 2024

As we can see on the Microsoft blog, the company will withdraw the version Basic Auth in favor of Modern Auth in Outlook September 16, 2024. This means that users will no longer be able to log into their accounts using only their username and passwords.

Email clients that do not use the version Modern Auth They will not be able to access the Outlook service. But that’s not all, because Microsoft has decided to put an end to its applications legacy or older this year.

These apps will not be available or supported through the Microsoft Store beyond the end of 2024. The company’s hope is to move customers to the new Outlook for Windows as soon as possible.

Outlook Web light web will also be retired in 2024

On the other hand, the light version of Outlook will also be retired. This withdrawal will take effect on August 19, 2024, and it will be mandatory to use at least Edge 79, Chrome 79, Firefox 78, Safari 16 or Opera 76 to access Outlook on the web.

But that is not all. People using Gmail in Outlook on the web through the left pane will need to use Outlook for Windows or Mac to perform the same functionality after June 30, 2024.
