It was learned this week that as of September 16, 2024, Microsoft will add an extra layer of protection to your traditional email platformconsidered one of the pioneers in the digital era.

Specific, Hotmail and Outlook accounts will no longer work with the login method, which consists only of entering a username and its respective password. Everyone with a company email account will now be required to use the mobile app, calendar app, or Outlook.com website, as all three support modern authentication methods.

New methods that prioritize security

With four days until autumn arrives in the United States, any application that does not have support for the aforementioned Microsoft email authentication methods will unfortunately have a marked limitation in connecting with said services.

From the American multinational technology corporation based in Redmond, Washington, they explain that the easiest way to complete the new regulations is by downloading one of the free official Outlook applications for iOS, Android, Windows or Macsince these apps are already prepared for the Modern Authentication system.

As we accelerate our security efforts to help better protect our customers, we are retiring the lite version of the Outlook Web App. This means that starting in 2024, customers will need to be running the latest versions of a supported browser to run Outlook.com“, they explained from the company founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen.

This update means two important modifications: for those who still stick with the old Windows Mail and Calendar applications, it will be time to say goodbye. On the other hand, Microsoft will stop supporting access to Google Gmail accounts in Outlook.com starting June 30, 2024.
