OnePlus has found the perfect ally to reinvent mobile batteries: CATL

The world’s largest battery manufacturer has teamed up with OnePlus to create ‘Glacier’, a new style of battery that promises a jump in energy density

Mobile phone batteries have been stagnant for several years, but it will not be because manufacturers are not looking for alternatives. It is difficult, since little more can be extracted from Lithium-Ion battery technology. Now OnePlus has announced a new generation of batteries on Weibo. We still know few details but we do have the name of his ally: CATL, the largest battery manufacturer in the world.

OnePlus explains that it has teamed up with CATL to develop a new battery that they have called ‘OnePlus Glacier’. We do not know the materials on which it will be based, although as described by GSMarena, it is a battery based on a negative silicon electrode that would offer greater energy density while maintaining fast charging.

One of the first devices that would debut this new battery would be the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro, scheduled to be presented in China on June 20. According to the latest rumors, this mobile would come with 6,100 mAh and 100W fast charging, in a relatively thin body. If these data are confirmed, we would clearly be a step forward compared to the majority of terminals of the moment.

OnePlus was one of the first companies to bet on battery innovation with the OnePlus 3 and its 20W Dash fast charging. Back in 2016. With ‘Glacier’ they will seek a similar impact.

OnePlus and CATL talk about a “revolution” in autonomy for smartphones. Although it is still too early for this, it is interesting to see that OnePlus has teamed up with the largest battery manufacturer in the world.
