While it is true that fans of fantasy RPGs have been waiting for the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguardthe BioWare title has raised some eyebrows by confirming that Your combat will be in real time. His last gameplaylasting more than 20 minutes, allowed us to take a look at both its setting and the spectacular nature of its battles, but now we can delve even deeper into the vicissitudes of this system to know in detail the particularities of some classes, the skill trees and much more.

We owe this accumulation of news to Game Informerwho has captured his exclusive impressions of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in the latest issue of his magazine (via Enduin and redbomb6 on ResetEra). In short, and as seen in the gameplay already mentioned, the BioWare RPG will allow us to carry out skills such as dashes, parrys, powerful charges and devastating combos. In this sense, the medium speaks in a way of stop the execution of a combo with a dash and continue it after finishing the movement. All this, of course, is embellished with special attention to the animations of each hit to ensure a visual finish that lives up to expectations.

And what about the classic gameplay of the Dragon Age saga? Here the essence of the combats already seen in the BioWare franchise is preserved with a system to pause the combat, develop a strategy with skills (own and companions) and resume the game so that all the NPCs carry out their respective function. In this sense, Game Informer ensures that the player will be able to choose movements and spells to use, queue them, create strategies and target specific enemies. And, in case the user prefers a real-time experience, he can always carry out his attacks without the need to pause the game.

Game Informer has had the opportunity to look in detail at the combat style of Warriors, Rogues and Wizards; each with a strong attack, a lighter blow, and an assortment of skills to triumph on the battlefield. In fact, the media highlights that the differences between classes are mainly found in their secondary attacks and their defense methods: The Warrior can throw his shield, block and parry; the Rogue has a more generous scope for parrying and can use a bow; and the Mage can’t parry, but makes up for it with the ability to cast a magic shield that automatically blocks attacks (at the cost of consuming mana).

Huge skill trees

In addition to seeing their respective performance in combat, Game Informer has also been able to verify the size of the skill trees of the three classes mentioned above. We are talking about a point allocation system that consists of 168 nodes in total (including active skills, passive skills, upgrades, specializations, and more) divided into 10 sections. In this way, BioWare ensures a very detailed experience when configuring our own playing style; which is complemented by the aforementioned system of pausing, developing a strategy and continuing the game.

As always, we will have to test the combat system of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (as well as the rest of the elements that make up the RPG experience) to know if BioWare is on the right track implementing these changes to its iconic franchise. And, although we still do not have a specific release date, we know that we will not have to wait long to experience all these new features first-hand. According to the latest announcements of the title, the team intends to launch this adventure sometime next fall.
