Some of the millions of players Elden Ring around the world are already enjoying Shadow of the Erdtree, which according to critics, has become the highest-rated expansion in history, surpassing Blood & Wine, from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Given the fears of many of them that the difficulty would be lowered in relation to that of the base game, Miyazaki responded in the expected way: offering an even greater challenge, and according to the Japanese creative himself, reducing it “it would have broken the game”.
“If we had wanted everyone to play the game, we could have reduced the difficulty a little more, and more, but that was not the right direction,” Miyazaki said in an interview with The Guardian. “If we had gone in that direction, I don’t think the game would have achieved what it has, because The feeling of accomplishment that players get from overcoming all the obstacles is a fundamental part of the experience. Reducing the difficulty would have deprived the game of that, which from my point of view would have broken the game completely.”
And since From Software has become a popular studio, approximately since the launch of the first Dark Souls, the debate about the selection of difficulty levels arises with each new release from the Japanese.
