Google will extend access to Gemini to teenage students, who will be able to chat with the chatbot and use other educational features powered by artificial intelligence from Workspace for Education and Chromebooks.

The Gemini chatbot will be available to teenage students for free on Chromebooks, with a web application and in English, although its use must be activated by administrators, since it will be disabled by default.

This novelty will arrive in more than one hundred countries in the coming months and will require that students meet the minimum age requirement to use Gemini, that is, 13 years old, unless a specific country has established a different age. In the countries of the European Economic Area it is required to have reached the age of 18.

Workspace for Education, the set of tools for classrooms, has incorporated ‘Read Long’ into Classroom, so that teachers can assign tasks focused on improving reading ability and comprehension with the support of an AI assistant, as reported Google on its official blog.

Classroom will also incorporate the LearnLM family models, built from Gemini specifically for teaching, so that teachers can assign tasks to groups of students based on their needs and evaluate them.

The collaborative video application Google Vids will have a version that does not include the generative AI part, aimed at students and teachers, which will arrive at the end of the year.
