Wisk Aero, a company specialized in advanced air mobility (AAM) and a subsidiary of Boeing, has acquired Verocel, a software verification and validation (V&V) company. Verocel’s unique expertise in supporting high-integrity aerospace software certification and V&V tool qualification will play a key role in Wisk’s ongoing effort to certify its sixth-generation autonomous electric air taxi.

During the last 25 years, The Verocel team has led the V&V of high integrity software products within the aerospace industry. The team has extensive experience in DO-178C and are members of industry standards committees for high integrity software, including RTCA/Special Committee, EUROCAE Working Group, and FAA Global Properties Working Group. Additionally, Verocel’s qualified toolset, VeroTrace, provides a foundation for defining, tracking, and submitting to the FAA software certification requirements. This specialized experience creates an enduring capability at Wisk that supports both the certification of Generation 6 aircraft and future software developments at The Boeing Company.

«Developing high-integrity software is critical to our mission to certify an autonomous electric aircraft, with V&V being an important part of the overall software certification effort,” said Brian Yutko, CEO of Wisk. “Verocel’s specialized and talented team will bring with them deep experience and rigor, which will help accelerate our autonomous certification project that is already underway,” explains Yutko.

Verocel was founded in 1999 and has a proven track record with more than 160 projects for more than 25 clients, including previous work with The Boeing Company. In addition to software development and V&V services, Verocel also develops and produces security computers for the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS)., an air navigation system that improves the accuracy and integrity of GPS to allow aircraft to safely navigate around the world today. More than 50 highly specialized software engineers, based in Westford Massachusetts and Poznan, Poland, join Wisk through this acquisition.

“Wisk is a perfect alignment for Verocel, both long and short term,” said Jim Chelini, president of Verocel. “Not only is this an opportunity to directly apply our expertise to the certification of an innovative technology, but it is also an incredible opportunity for Verocel talent to excel within Wisk and the broader Boeing ecosystem in the long term.”

Verocel will continue to meet customer commitments in addition to intensify the Wisk Generation 6 certification program.
