The launch of a new control was announced licensed by Steam manufactured by Hori, a Japanese company specialized in peripherals and accessories for video games. Its name is Wireless Horipad for Steam and it is designed specifically to interact with games on the Steam platform, which are exclusive to computers.
The Wireless Horipad for Steam will be available on the market starting October 31, 2024, priced at 7,980 yen, approximately $50, and will initially only be sold in Japan.
In 2019, Steam discontinued the Steam Controller, which was at the time the only controller developed and manufactured by the company. Now, Steam plans to re-release another controller under its license, although this time it will not be manufactured by themselves.
The Wireless Horipad for Steam comes in four colors: black, yellow, white and purple. It has touch sensors located on the levers, designed to activate the gyroscopic controls. In addition, it supports Bluetooth wireless and USB-C wired connections, and offers extensive customization options through Hori’s software.
Gyroscopic controls are sensors that detect the movement and orientation of the controller by measuring changes in angular orientation.
This allows games and apps to interpret the controller’s physical movements as in-game commands. For example, when you tilt or rotate the controller, the gyroscopic controls detect these movements and translate them into in-game actions.
The control also has a direct access button to the Steam platform. This allows the user to quickly launch Steam from whatever program or game they are in.
In addition, Players have the option to completely customize the controller’s buttons under a feature called button mapping.

Currently, there are three games that are free on the platform. These are: ‘Ale & Tale Tavern’, ‘Get off Work’ and ‘Crackin’ Smackin’.
