HONOR introduces new AI Deepfake Detection and AI Defocus Eye Protection features

Every day it seems like there are more problems with the Internet and Deepfakes, and HONOR has unveiled two new technologies to address them. They are called AI Deepfake Detection and AI Defocus Eye Protection.

What are HONOR AI Deepfake Detection and AI Defocus Eye Protection?

The first function is the so-called Deepfake Protection. This feature can use AI to detect Deepfake content by scanning parameters such as eye contact, lighting, and image clarity. It even runs in real-time to prevent video-based scams involving phishing. Honor claims that it only takes three seconds to determine if content is manipulated with AI. If it is, a warning will be displayed on the screen asking you not to contact the user.

Then there is AI Defocus Eye Protection. This function simulates defocus glasses. This type of lens is basically a prescription contact lens used to treat myopia. How Honor intends to recreate this with software is a mystery. The company claims that it reduces the reader’s transient myopia by 13 degrees and, in some cases, up to 75 degrees.

Honor hasn’t mentioned whether either feature runs locally, but the second almost certainly requires an internet connection. It also hasn’t specified which devices will get them or when.

These new advances demonstrate the brand’s commitment beyond its typical presentations. And HONOR is one of the companies that also gives the most emphasis to other sections such as the PWM values of our smartphones and tablets.
